• How to use.
The FileT&C 2.0.1 package contains two version of the application:
√...FileT&C 2.0.1 (68K) for 68K Macs or, in emulation, for Power Macs.
√...FileT&C 2.0.1 (PPC) for Power Macs.
FileT&C 2.0.1 is a Drag&Drop application to change, on the fly, file type & creator…
After dragging on one file, the "Setting Dialog" appears:
The texts displayed are the current Type and Creator of file dropped. The "Choose" buttons copies type or creator from another file. The "Both" button copies type and creator from another file. The "Cancel" button quits without perform any change. The "OK" button sets type and creator, then quits...
After dragging on more than one file, the same window appears, but Type and Creator displayed are those you have set in the preferences (see below). After you have pressed the "OK" button and while FileT&C 2.0.1 id working, the window below (the "Info Window") returns some informations:
Note: the "Info Window" appears only if you drag on more than one file or if you drag on one or more files with DropKeys pressed (see below).
Through a double-click on FileT&C 2.0.1 icon you can reach the "Preferences Dialog".
The buttons are auto-explaining, I think...
The preferred types will be shown in the "Setting Dialog" when you drag on more than one file, besides FileT&C 2.0.1 uses they when you drag on its icon one or more file, holding down a DropKey (see below)…
In the "Preferences Dialog" you can set four further file type (just in the "Skip files of type" area), if FileT&C 2.0.1, while is running, finds a file having type matching one of four type you have set, then lets this file untouched.
Same as "preferred types", the "Skip files of type" option is effective, only when:
◊ more than one files are dropped; or when
◊ one or more files is dropped with a DropKey pressed.
Consequently if you simply drag one file on FileT&C 2.0.1 icon, without DropKeys pressed, the "Skip files of type" option is turned off.
Note: in the "Skip files of type" area, the "Preferences Dialog" has a checkbox to the left of each of the 4 boxes for the types. The way to use this feature is:
◊ type the four letter code for the filetype (or choose a file type by the button to the left of the checkbox);
◊ check the checkbox (using the mouse).
If you don't check the checkbox then the typed code is not used by FileT&C 2.0.1. In fact, if you close the dialog (by pressing the "OK" button) and then re-open it, then the four-letter code that you have just entered (but forgot to check the checkbox) is not there! It has disappeared! So, I hope you understand because the checkbox is there: simply for security confirmation. Furthermore if you check the checkbox but don't insert some text in the related field, when you re-open the "Preferences Dialog" the checkbox will be un-checked.
DROPKEYS:
FileT&C 2.0.1, has some useful drop keys:
<command> = if you drag on one or more files while this key is down FileT&C 2.0.1 skip the "Setting Dialog", shows immediately the "Info Window" then lets the creators of files untouched and change only the types, using the type set in the preferences.
<option> = the same of above, but FileT&C 2.0.1 changes the creators using the creator set in the preferences and lets the types untouched.
<command+option> = the same of above, but FileT&C 2.0.1 changes both creators and types.
FileT&C 2.0.1 is very useful for normal desktop work, but is really cool when works, quickly, with a lot of files. So, to help people needing to work with volumes or folders, FileT&C 2.0.1 support the dragging of disks and folders.
Also FileT&C 2.0.1 works fine and fast in background...
Note: while FileT&C 2.0.1 is the foreground application, you can press escape or command-period to exit during its performance. Instead if FileT&C 2.0.1 is the background application you can use only escape key to stop its job.
When FileT&C 2.0.1 completes its job and if it's in background, then attempts to call back your attention, to show its statistics, by a simple notification procedure. If you does nothing or are working with another application, after a brief waiting time (about 30 seconds), it quits.
FileT&C 2.0.1 requires at least System 7 to run.

If you don’t pay for shareware software today, you will pay much more tomorrow for exactly the same features (but enclosed in a 'nice' commercial box, with a 'friendly' copy protection and an 'attractive' serial number...).
